چکیده

Although there are a large number of species of fungi, only a relative few have been found to produce antibiotics, and only seven antibiotics are produced commercially. The 1970 Information Bulletin, No. 8 (3) of the International Center of Information on Antibiotics lists 338 species of fungi that produce antibiotics. According to 1967 (11) and 1970 (13) lists assembled by Perlman, the following antibiotics are produced commercially: Fusidic acid formed by Fusidium coccineum Hickel, griseofulvin formed by Penicillium griseofulvim Dierk, penicillins f0l111ed by Penicillium chrysogenum Thom, variotin formed by Paecilomyces varioti Bainier, derivatives of cephalosporin formed by Emericellopsis (Cephalosporium), and fumagillin produced by Aspergillus fumigatus Fres. Since then, siccanin produced by Helmintlwsporium siccans Drechsler has been produced in Japan. According to Perlman (12), only three groups of antibiotics are produced by fungi in the United States. These are the cephalosporins, penicillins, and fumagillin.

Rules for the classification of antibiotic-producing actinomycetes.

One of the most important tasks in our present day science of antibiotics is the establishment of a completely rational taxonomy and nomenclature for antibiotic-producing organisms. A purposeful search for antibiotic substances is possible only with good knowledge of the species which produce them. A great many antibiotic-producing actinomycetes have been described recently. Investigators often...

Chryscandin, a novel peptidyl nucleoside antibiotic. I. Taxonomy, fermentation, isolation and characterization.

A novel antifungal antibiotic, chryscandin was found in the culture broth of a strain of fungi. The producing organism was subsequently identified as Chrysosporium pannorum. The antibiotic obtained as colorless needle crystals (C20H23N7O6, MW 457) is active against Candida albicans and Gram-positive bacteria, but it is ineffective against filamentous fungi and Gram-negative bacteria. Acute toxi...

Aflatoxins and aflatoxigenic fungi in Iran: A systematic review of the past, present, and future

Aflatoxins are highly toxic compounds that are produced as secondary metabolites by some Aspergillus and Emericella species. Despite huge progress on aflatoxin research during the past 50 years, we have witnessed many cases of food contamination with aflatoxins all over the world. Aflatoxins have mutagenic and carcinogenic effects and they are capable of inducing hepatocellular carcinoma in hum...

Antifungal Properties of Antibiotic Substances.

Fungi, especially the filamentous types, have become definitely established as the most important group of organisms that is capable of producing antibacterial substances under proper conditions of culture. No less significant, even if less well known, is the fact that many microorganisms, including fungi on the one hand, and bacteria and actinomycetes on the other, are capable of producing age...
